Human Capital Business Solutions Ltd is a Boutique HR Advisory Firm that specializes in strategic HR Consulting, Talent Acquisition & Development, Risk Management and Business Process Outsourced Services with our Headquarters based in Uganda and Country Office in Tanzania.

On behalf of Our client in the manufacturing sector, we are looking for competent and experienced Quality Inspector-plant based to be based in Jinja.

Reports To: Quality Control Supervisor

Duty Station: Jinja, Uganda.

Job Summary: The Quality Inspector will be responsible for monitoring and inspecting steel production processes and finished products at the plant. This hands-on role involves conducting visual inspections, measurements, and tests to verify compliance with quality standards, industry regulations, and customer specifications. The position requires working in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with production teams, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspecting and testing steel products to ensure they meet quality standards and specs
  • Conducting visual inspections, dimensional checks, and material tests to detect defects or irregularities.
  • Process Monitoring production to identify potential quality issues and implementing corrective actions.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure they are operating within specified limits and make adjustments as needed.
  • Collaborating with production teams to resolve quality-related problems and improve processes.
  • Documenting inspection results, maintaining records, and reporting trends to management.
  • Ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Inspection and Testing: Conduct regular inspections of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished products to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Defect Identification: Identify and document defects, and recommend corrective actions to production teams.
  • Quality Control: Implement quality control procedures and checks to prevent defects and ensure product quality.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and quality control activities.
  • Reporting: Provide regular reports on quality performance, trends, and areas for improvement.
  • Collaboration: Work with production teams, maintenance, and other stakeholders to resolve quality issues and improve processes.
  • Training: Provide training and guidance to production staff on quality procedures and standards.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance quality and efficiency.
  • Does any other duties assign from time to time.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least 3-5 years of hands-on quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably steel, metal fabrication, or construction materials.
  • Practical understanding of steel rolling, quenching & tempering (TMT process), galvanizing, and profiling operations.
  • Familiarity with UNBS certification processes and Ugandan steel product standards
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, mill test certificates, and product specifications.
  • Proficiency with basic measuring instruments and record-keeping (ERP tools like SAP is an advantage).
  • Strong attention to detail, integrity, and ability to work under pressure in a hot, dusty, and noisy factory setting.
  • Valid certificate in occupational safety (e.g., basic OSHA awareness or equivalent) is desirable.
